Try the steps listed here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555989

To be clear, this is Windows Server 2003 that has had both SP1 and SP2
applied, it has updated successfully in the past, but now the AU service
is Disabled on boot, can be Enabled afterwards, and the system can
update successfully ...
Is that correct ?

<QP>
4. Remove the folder \Windows\System32\Catroot2
5. Rename the \Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder.
</QP>

Too bad AUREST doesn't do that! <eg>

Err ... this could be 'DNS-related', catch my drift ?
That's why we need to know if this is persistent or recent behavior.

Can the 5 servers update successfully ?
If *not*, I strongly urge you to contact a local MS office for what
*may* be a security related issue.
For US and Canadian residents:
http://www.microsoft.com/protect/support/default.mspx

http://support.microsoft.com/common/....aspx?rdpath=4

If outside the US or Canada, select your region at the above URL.
