"dvc",
The error you are seeing roughly translates as: HTTP error 403: The client does
not have sufficient rights to the server.
This is usually because of a proxy setting that forces clients to provide
authentication at all sites to connect for anything more than browsing.
I do appreciate the fact that 4 of the 6 identical machines that were updated to
Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 are working fine with Windows Update, and
that only 2 are displaying this message. Let me ask a few more questions here:
1. Are all 6 identical machines on your test I updated to SP1 a set of identical
Win 2003 servers running SQL Server in your "test environment" part of the same
network? The same subnet?
2. Are these 6 machines set at DHCP clients or are they hardcoded with IP
addresses?
3. If you open an Internet Explorer window, then click Tools, then click
Internet Options, then Connections, the n LAN Settings, is the Proxy Server
"spelled out" in here, along with the Port Number? Is the "Automatically Detect
Settings checked?
Please reply back to this posting and let us know, and I'll be happy to help
further.
Sincerely,
Pat Walters [MSFT]
