Have you tried the experts in the Windows 2000 Update newsgroups?

My mistake, this code came up for Windows XP pro, not 2000

There is not much we can do. This is Microsofts way of trying to make VISTA
look better so we will want to buy it.

These idiots tried to tell me that the reason it isn't working is because my
temp int files folder was corrupt, but when I tried to email the NFO folder
it was too big an attachment.

Hello. I get the same error. There is an article in the KB about this. I
tried the workaround, but it doesn't work. Next step, anyone?

Since OP has already clarified (in an earlier subthread) that the Subject
text is incorrect (OS is XP.) the appropriate troubleshooter is more likely
to be one for WUv6.

E.g. here is what I get (on XPsp2, after Alt-T,U; then [Get help and support];
then [Try solving your problem with the troubleshooter]:

http://update.microsoft.com/microsof....aspx?ln=en-us

BTW I'm not sure whether I am supposed to be using MU or WU
or whether there is a separate troubleshooter for either update facility.
I have a feeling that something automatic happened because I don't
remember explicitly doing something to get MU.

Apparently I could force it back to using WU by using the checkbox
at the bottom of the page linked by [Change Settings].

<title>How to enable and to disable Microsoft Update</title>
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=901037

(Live Search for
"microsoft update" "windows update" instead site:support.microsoft.com
)
