We are running WSUS on a Windows 2k3 server and I am unable to get a single
Windows 2k3 server client to appear in the WSUS console. We experienced this
problem with several XP clients. This issue was easily resolved by deleting
the registry keys: PingID, AccountDomainSid, and SusClientId from
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\WindowsUpdate.
One XP machine still would not connect, but after manually installing XP SP2,
it connected right away and then deleting the reg. keys, it connected right
away.

Deleting the registry keys worked on a few Windows 2k servers also. On 2
other Windows 2k3 servers, manually installing SP 1 and deleting the reg.
keys did the trick and were then visible in the WSUS console. However, we
still have a single Windows 2k3 client with SP1 installed that is still not
visible.

The WindowsUpdate key in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Win dows\ exists and the
WUServer and WUStatusServer settings are correct. The AU key exists in the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Win dows\WindowsUpdate\AU key.
The UseWUServer setting is correct as well. The AUState setting in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto
Update is not there. Does this need to be added manually? The
LastWaitTimeout and DetectionStartTime settings do not exist either.

If anyone one has any ideas or thought, I would certainly appreciate it.

Thanks,

David S.
