Windows 7 64bit Will Not Update Office Products

I'm running Windows 7 Home Professional 64bit and my system will update
Windows only. If i try to update Office 2007 products, it opens up a dialog
"Administrators Only" in the 32bit browser. If I attempt to update through
IE 64bit browser it tells me that I need use the 32bit browser.

I'm logged in as Admin...there aren't any user profiles set up on the
computer! I've tried enabling Full Access to "Everyone" both in the registry
and to the SoftwareDistribution folder.

I have no idea how to fix this and it is very frustrating. I'm sure there
are security patches and whatnot available for my office products that I have
no idea about.

If someone has an actual fix for this issue PLEASE PLEASE let me know
because I'm at a loss.

Thank you,
Tara

Why are you using IE to update Windows 7 ... or, are you just trying to
opt the system into Microsoft Update ?

*RIGHT* click the shortcut to IE 32 bit on the Start Menu and choose
'Run as administrator'.
Enter the p/w if one is used, click Continue; or, if no p/w is used,
click Continue.
Now click Tools > Windows Update.
Try to opt into MU from the Windows Update window now.

Ok, I guess this is what you are trying to do:

1: Open Windows Update.
2: Click on the "Get updates for more products" or whatever it is called.
3: It opens your browser with a "Install" button.

Here are some things you can try:

Do you use Internet Explorer?

IF YES - Go to the next question.

IF NO - Try using Internet Explorer for this task. Go to the next question.

UAC - Do you have UAC disabled?

IF YES - Internet Explorer runs in protected mode as default. Protected Mode
runs as a user with limited rights to certain systempaths etc. Since you have
UAC disabled it will not prompt you for administrative rights when you try to
install the Microsoft Update, but you can add the URL to "Trusted Sites", and
try again, which should make IE not run in protected mode.

IF NO - The UAC prompt level might be too low to prompt you for
administrative rights (I'm just guessing here). Try increasing the prompt
level to the maximum and try again. You can reset it afterwards.

I have the same exact problem. I tried 8 times. No dice with 64-bit Windows 7.

I get code 8007060663 "Windows Update encountered an unknown error"

This is serious for those of us who care about security. Microsoft, please
fix.

Running IE 32 bit as Admin was the one thing I did not try...and it worked!

To answer you question, yes, Windows Update through my sytem updates Windows
only and I wanted to get Office updates as well.

Thank you!
Tara

Apparently your use of the "web-based newsreader" ,
X-Newsreader: Microsoft CDO for Windows 2000,
precludes you from seeing the resolution to the error.

*RIGHT* click the shortcut to IE 32 bit on the Start Menu and choose
'Run as administrator'.
Enter the p/w if one is used, click Continue; or, if no p/w is used,
click Continue.
Now click Tools > Windows Update.
Try to opt into Microsoft Update from the Windows Update window in
Control Panel now.

You're mowst welcome, Tara. It would have been nice if Microsoft had
provided that information ***next to the link*** to Microsoft Update.

I'd try to tell them but they never listen to me so I've stopped wasting
my time. <w>
