Hi,

I am using Windows 7 ultimate and have had recent updates one of which is
update: KB963660.

this update will not install, after attempting to update it says update
failure- rolling back to undo any changes etc.

The error is : C004F050.

I have searched everywhere for an idea and even for the download standalone
package, but on the MS site, it just gives details about this update.

Any one have any idea as to what to do with this?

Win update also shows in my taskbar that there are new updates available,
although there are not, and I can't close it.

It's abvioulsy down to this update, even though I have tried hiding it, it
still shows.

Tyvmia for any help/advice you can offer.

Suggest you post this issue to the Win7 Security forum as Win7 is not
supported in the WindowsUpdate newsgroup, Glock:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/...urity/threads/

KB963660 is *supposed* to be only available via a request for a Hotfix,
not via automatic updating. Are you stating that it was offered up via
automatic [windows update in Vista/Win7] updates ?

0xC004F050
The Software Licensing Service reported that the product key is invalid.

Has the edition of Win7 installed been Activated yet ?

From where did you download Win7 beta and when did you install it?

Hi Mow, thanks for that link and reply.

Yeah, the update was included amongst the automatic updates procedure. I
chose to install it, though I have no 3rd party codecs, as it was offered
this way, so I thought it may be important.

Thanks for the reply also Bear, To the both of you:

As for Win 7, I registered with the tech net a while back, and was offered
the chance to beta test it, so I signed up, downloaded it from MS the night
(my time UK) it was released, then had the key sent to my Hotmail address, it
is registered and activated. I'm concerned now.

(It even gave me the option for Ultimate as I have Vista Ultimate Retail, so
naturally it would be legit???)

Mark's recommendation there does not correct the issue regrettably.

I know this may be the wrong forum to post after being shown the correct
place, but still; does any one have any idea on this??

My taskbar is still showing I have updates to install, though there aren't
any..

Thanks anyways, maybe in a few more days more and more Win7 users will
encounter the same issues, and then perhaps a solution may be found.

Cheers.

Was the "Windows 7 Genuine Activation By Orbit30 2009 v2" or a similar
patch that was released to make W7 "genuine" before Microsoft released
the public beta applied, Glock ? If yes, then see the post by 'colemar'
made on 3/1 in this thread.
I know nothing about hacks to get Win7 to pass the Genuine check as they
are unnecessary and cause 'mysterious' issues.
