Is windows 7 just Vista with sp2 installed?

I read a comment on zdnet, that said Windows 7 is just Vista sp2 with
a different desktop and start menu.

So, is this user correct?

One thing I am not do happy about with windows 7, is finding drivers
for 32 bit hardware. I really don't want to have to buy a new
printer.

Feel free to believe it.

Many people have sarcastically said that 7 is Vista SP3, but it's either a
joke or a criticism, depending on the person speaking.

No, that user is not correct. Windows 7 is the latest version of
Windows. Vista was the name of the last version of Windows, the version
before that was called XP. There has been many changes between the last
version of Windows and this version. Too many to list here.

This so-called "logic" makes no sense. Using that logic you might as
well call the last version of Vista "Windows XP SP 5" making Windows 7
"Windows XP SP6".

no problems.

No.

Not even close.

Any time you go to a newer version of Windows, there is always the
possibility that there are no drivers for using older hardware with
it.

This, by the way, is not a Windows 7, or a Microsoft issue. Each
hardware manufacturer decides for itself whether it makes economic
sense to develop new drivers for an older piece of hardware that is no
longer selling much.

What printer do you have, by the way?

It's NT7 -- service packs don't count ;-) -- and because they changed
the eye candy and fixed the Vista problems, they think they can to
charge for NT7. After the Vista fiasco, they *need* to charge for it and
if it flops, MS will have to live off XBox.

Its been observed that over 80,000 Linux users have abandoned Ubuntu
today in favor of Windows 7. Sorry!

It's Windows 7 because Microsoft says so. You can call it what you want.
At least Windows 7 is a winner and Ubuntu is a LOSER.

Of course they can charge for Windows 7. Millions have already purchased
it. With Ubuntu, maybe 500 new users over the next 3 years.
