The next Windows operating system is under
development and no one outside of Microsoft
has any concrete knowledge of it features or how
it will compare to Vista.

Don't know. As far as I can tell there have been no builds leaked yet.

Expect an update to the GUI. Smaller kernal(smaller footprint). Better
backward compatibility. I have had no problems with Vista on any of my
systems or any system I've installed it on. But there are a few who just
could'nt handle it. Vista never listed "compotent user" in the system
requirements when it was released.

So far anyones best guess right now is a dumbed down version of Vista.

Well wouldn't that admit Vista was a mistake?

Vista is already a dumbed down version of XP.

Few have problems? You mean oh, just a few million buddy?

Your idea of a competent user === the idiot Frank.

Those screenshots are meaningless, as no work appears to have been released
on the GUI yet. Early XP screenshots had the 'Watercolor' theme, that was
like a refreshed Win2000 look, and early Longhorn screenshots looked like a
refreshed XP interface.

My guess is, we will have welcome screen with a little voice saying"Welcome
Mr.Frank, have a nice time interacting with me" or some thing similar. Then
when we log off it may say"Thank you Mr.Frank, have a nice day".
And while we operate the PC,it may say"You can make a cup of coffee while I
look for the web page" or "You may listen to some music while I connect to
the Internet".
I am wondering how they are going to amaze me as well.

One thing is for sure, there WILL be plenty of changes, and if it's anything
like Vista, most will be for no REAL reason at all...
Here's just some of the changes made from XP to Vista that had no real
benefit to the user:

See, MS feels they have to change the names and locations of folders and
features to satisfy (fool) the fanboys into thinking they're running a new
OS, when in reality it's just another poorly written,
even-more-bloated-than-before piece of sh*t.
Seeing how Vista still contains bits and dialogs dating all the way back to
Windows 3.1, it's hard to convince people that Vista is "totally new from
the ground up" as the cheerleaders claim, when CLEARLY it isn't.

All the changes made between XP & Vista were necessary to produce the
illusion that Vista is somehow new and different, when in fact all they
really did was add a bunch of new (and equally useless) eye candy.
I have work to do, and I've yet to see a screensaver or window border effect
that could compile a speadsheet or format a document for me.

Frank, et al, otoh, just set them down in front of a Fisher-Price mobile and
they'll be entertained for days.
