There is no mail or news reader included in the public beta. They
probably want you to install Windows Live Mail, but you're free to use
whatever you want.

There are online forums - both Microsoft and non-Microsoft - but no public
newsgroups yet.

No, there is no newsreader out-of-the-box .. but just download and install
the Windows Live stuff - Windows Live Mail can be used as a newsreader.

The mail and news reader in Win 7 is called Windows Live Mail. Outlook 2007
is part of Microsoft Office.

There are no Usenet newsgroups yet for Windows 7.

There are a variety of Web based discussion areas. The one maintained by
Microsoft is:

Window Live Mail is the downloadable replacement for Outlook Express or
Windows Mail. It can serve as a newsreader. I'm unfamiliar with Outlook
2007. (Still using 2003.)

You will have to use Windows Live Mail or a 3rd party mail/newsreader
application like Thunderbird..

Outlook 2007 has no integrated news reader but their are add-ons like
Newshound for it

No, there isn't a newsreader in either Win7 or Outlook 2007.

Well, clean up after yourself then, lol.

WinMail does the trick for text newsgroups such as this one. I have no idea
what it is like with binary newsgroups such as the ones one can get with
some Giganews type server, but since I stick with msnews.microsft.com
newsgroups which are basically text only newsgroups (AFAIK), WinMail works
fine for me even though it has no icons for many of its buttons.

If a person had a subscription to a newsgroup server such as Giganews they
might want to explore software that has more features for downloading /
searching / sorting binaries etc. etc. but for text only WinMail is OK ..
but I do like the idea of integrating newsreading with Outlook and am
wondering about that Newshound plug-in.

BTW, the old command-line switches that worked with OE still work with
WinNews. /nerwsonly and /outnews.
