Windows 7 Search

Sorry to post a Windows 7 question in a Vista group, but I assume the issues
and answers apply to both. Also, am I missing something, or is there no
Windows 7 set of groups here?

1. I've Googled and searched various online forums, and I read Microsoft's
page on advanced search syntax and can't seem to find the answer no matter
how I frame my question: Is there a "NOT" filter in Windows 7 search? For
example, "images NOT *.TIF"? or "*.jpg NOT kind:email" if I want to see all
images that aren't TIFs or all jpegs that are in e-mails? I've tried all
sorts of variations on the preceding examples with no success. Minus signs
also don's seem to work.

2. My indexing options are pretty standard. Among other things, my "My
Pictures" folder is indexed, for example. If I try to search by clicking the
Microsoft logo and then typing a search in the search box, my results just
don't seem right. Example: if I click the Microsoft logo and type "*.jpg
tagsuppy" in the search box, I get "no items match your search." But if I
then click "see more results," I instantly get hundreds of jpg files tagged
"puppy." No delay whatsoever, as if it's maybe searching non-indexed
locations, it's immediate. And furthermore, the files are in "My Pictures,"
which I've checked a hundred times to confirm that it's an indexed location.

Any answers are appreciated, and also if anyone can point me to a really
detailed excplanation of the Windows search syntax... Thanks.
