Windows 7 VPC and x64 guest

Hi all:

I am trying to install a 64-bit guest OS on Windows 7 x64 RC and Virtual PC.
I have enabled virtualization in the BIOS, but when I try to install I get
an error screen with:

"Attempting to load a 64-bit application, however this CPU is not compatible
with 64-bit mode"

but the CPU IS so I am wondering if anyone out there has seen this?

It's been seen and posted about time and time again, VPC doesn't support x64
guests.

Thanks for your response, Robert. That's a simple but unhappy answer, I
assumed that restriction was removed with Windows 7....

It isn't Windows 7 that's the problem, it's the virtual PC application, no
matter what OS you run it on it doesn't support x64 operating systems,
Windows Virtual PC for Windows 7 does, if your PC meets the hardware
requirements http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/

Actually it's still only 32-bit guests.

Unfortunately not, you would need to go with some other virtualization
software, either Windows Server with Hyper-V from Microsoft or
something like VMWare Workstation.

Yep. Virtual PC for Windows 7 is purely targeted at the legacy app
market so you can move to Windows 7. (it actually does that quite
well!) It did add USB support.
