Actually you can't install Windows Live Messenger on Windows 98 : WLM is
only working on Windows XP, Windows 2003 (all versions) and Windows Vista

Sorry :/

You could download it but you can't install it. It needs Windows XP (Home,
Pro, Tablet or MCE) or Windows x64 or Vista or Windows Server2003.

So it's time to upgrade to a supported O/S or to pass on Live Messenger.

Greetings,

For Windows 98, you will need to use MSN Messenger 7.0. Nothing since will work on Win98.

Thank you everyone who answered. The query is solved now.

I went to this link http://get.live.com/messenger/features for Live messenger.

Then I clicked on System requirements in the middle which took me to this
page http://join.msn.com/messenger/requirements98

This new page is clearly for MSN messenger and for 98. But the above link is
provided from the page of Live Messenger as my first link shows. HENCE WHAT?
Hence, Microsoft hasn't update the systems requirement page properly or at
least not clarified requirements for different versions properly. Don't I
know something now?

Hi,

I'm not using the web interface so I'm not logged in for you to rate me. In the coming
months it should work when I switch to Windows Mail in Vista which supports those "community"
features.

No. Microsoft dropped operating systems below Windows XP for Windows Live
Messenger. You can stick to MSN Messenger thow.
