Windows 98 SE update download hangs - please advise

Please note that I been through the trouble shooting guide and tried all the
recommended changes with no resolution of the problem. The only thing I can't
do is the following :
"Microsoft has found that one version of the DISPEX.DLL file (5.6.0.8515)
can cause this problem. This version is installed from the Windows Script
5.6 download on the MSDN web site. If you have Version 5.6.0.8515 of the
DISPEX.DLL file, then you need to try replacing it with the version of the
file that comes with IE 6 SP1 (Version 5.6.0.6626)."
I have checked the version I have (5.6.0.8515) and have downloaded and saved
version 5.6.0.6626 but I am unable to replace the incorrect version. I get an
error message. Can you suggest a way to do this, or another solution to the
download problem.
Prior to August 2004, I was able to download the updates with no problem,
but since then I have been able to review the updates only and the the
download just hangs. There are critical updates to download so I must resolve
this problem. Many thanks.

Umm, free support for 98 ended over a year ago. Save yourself a bunch of
headaches and move up to a newer operating system.

Are you attempting to replace the .dll file or Windows Script ?
It would behoove you to update the entire Windows Script as it
contains the file you need plus all pertinent security updates :

Windows Script 5.6 for Windows 98, Windows Millennium Edition, and
Windows NT 4.0
