I am using Windows XP.
Following problems with viruses etc Microsoft ordered SP1 for me on a CD,
because I couldn’t download it without my system seizing up. The CD appeared
to be installing SP1, when I got a final message, “The following updates were
not installed: Update for Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) 2.0
and WinHTTP 5.1 (KB84773).”
Further advice from Microsoft was to install SP2. I ordered the CD, being
told to let a named Microsoft Technical Clerk know when it arrived, plus
times and dates when I could be called by him to assist me. Having done that,
nobody has called me. When I try to install SP2 from the CD myself, I get the
message, “Installation did not complete”.
Following my message on 9 October to the Community Newsgroup, Paul made a
recommendation and I have recovered the Automatic Updater, but it doesn’t
update at 2 p.m. on Saturdays as I requested. When I tried for the Microsoft
updates, I got the same message as for SP1. HELP!
