Windows and Office Update Hang

When trying to use windows update the screen hangs when checking for
updates. When using office update the screen hangs at 40%. I have searched
and tried all the suggested solutions to correct the problem to no avail.
However, when I log on as Administrator both update functions work fine.
Any ideas how to fix this one?

My OS is XP Pro with Office 2000 Pro.
