Windows anomaly

My windows XP home edition has started acting up lateley. I can not pull up
my Control Panel nor my windows explorer. Some of my Iocns are not coming up
either and when I insert a compact flash or SD card it does not prompt for a
program type to work with the pictures or whatever. Does anyone know what is
going on?
I have already loaded service pack 2 some time ago and this problem has just
appeared in the last month.

I had something like that happen to me a while ago.
Try going to Internet Explorer, click Tools, and then click Internent Options.
When you're there, click the advanced tab.
Then click Restore Defaults and then Apply.
If you have the same problem I had, then this should work

I have had the exact same problem -- can't access Control Panel nor Windows
Explorer. When I try, the only thing I can do is Alt-Ctrl-Del then end the
Dr. Watson process. But, even that still doesn't allow me to open those
programs. On top of that, I am also getting alerts saying spyware is active
-- however, Ad-Aware and Spybot find nothing. I want to rid myself of the
spyware and the problems but nothing is working. Thanks.
