Windows Auto update problem

My computer shows a red shield onthe lower bar. When I click on it, it says
that auto update has been turned off because of a security alert. I go to the
control panel and try to turn auto update on and it looks like it is on, but
I still have the red shield saying no. I try to go to Windows update site and
it gives me a message saying the site is unavailable

call the assholes at microsoft, their support is pretty good, your probably
missing a registry file or another in your sys32 file. i am having similar
problems updating, but not red shield

the site is working now.

we need the exact error code to narrow down this issue, let's capture it
from the Windows update log file.
