I did a search of the archives but could not find a situation quite lik
mine

I have been running Windows Vista Business 32bit on a home buil
machine for about 6 months with no problems. I am not pro IT guy, just
fellow who seems to normally be able to troubleshoot issues in the pas
with Windows but this has me stumped

Last week upon starting my computer I got a screen that says

Windows Boot Manage
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might b
the cause. To fis the problem
1. Insert the Windows installation disc and restart your computer
2. Choose your language settings, then click "next.
3. Click "Repair your computer.
If you do not...bla bla...contact the administrator...bla bl
File: \Windows\system32\winload.ex
Status: 0xc000000
Info: The selected entry could not be loaded because the application i
missing or corrupt

First off, I have not added or changed anything as far as hardware o
software. I do recall my computer going through a Windows update sessio
the day before that seemed to last a long time. Also, Vista is the onl
OS this unit has ever had, I've seen some posts on this topic for thos
upgrading from XP to Vista

If I insert my OEM OS disc nothing happens. When starting the machine
do get my MSI Platinum motherboard splash screen for a second whic
instructs me to hold down the DEL key to go to the BIOS but if I d
nothing happens, I just get back to the Boot Manager message.

I began to wonder if my hard drive had faild so I installed a new on
as the primary, thinking I would just reinstall the Vista OS and extrac
what I need from the other drive but after installing the HD I get th
same screen for the Boot Manager.

Essentially I seem to be stuck. I'm wondering if it has done somethin
to my mother board since I can't even access the BIOS

Reinstall the other drive. Be sure that your computer is set to startup
first to your optical drive by going into its BIOS when given the
opportunity. If done, then hopefully you will be able to boot from your
DVD and repair startup. I would ignore the messages your received except
the one that says to repair startup. Be sure your OEM disk is a Vista
install disk and not a system recovery disk.

Not accessing the BIOS is more likely to be caused by some keyboard failure.
Do you get lights with capslock/scrolllock? Replacing the drive can often
loosen other cables. Try a new keyboard (PS/2 if possible) or check
connections.

Thanks, but getting into the BIOS is part of the issue. Even with my
original main hard drive I can not seem to get into the BIOS. I hold
down the DEL key as instructed on the first spash screen at start up and
I immediately get the Boot Manager message. I get no other options, it's
like it is not recognizing my attempt to get to the BIOS settings.

I do have an OEM Vista install disk since I built the machine from
scratch instead of a factory made machine with a recovery disc.

Any other ideas?

Taking literally what you have posted. You should not "hold down" the
del key. To be sure you trigger the correct part of the sequence, just
keep tapping the DEL key on startup.

It seems time to flash your BIOS. If you can't get properly to the BIOS
menu, you have a problem that need correction there first before you will be
able to get further.

You want to get to the Boot Manger!!!! That sets what order it looks for an
operating system

Go there and set it to boot FIRST from the CD/DVD Drive; have your Vista DVD
in the drive; reboot and follow the onscreen info you have been given by the
OS already>Next>Repair, etc..

Hi there,
You could boot from the Windows DVD and Repair the computer-->Startup
repair. You could also try the EasyBCD tool of NeoSmart, that can restore
and modify boot sectors; maybe it's something that it can repair, but you
must run it from inside a Windows version

I have a similar situation but I can't even get into the Repair Tool. It
keeps on giving me an error 0X0000C1F5. Yet the knowledge Base keeps
directing the user to user the Repair Tool. Alo, use to use the Safe Mode,
which I can not get. It keeps on goping th the BUE Screen and the Error
message (as you stated). Has anyone found a fix to our situation?

I also have (out of the blue) received the BLUE SCREEN but with a different
error code 0X0000C1F5. I went through al long process with the HELP desk and
Microsoft Knowlwdge Base, but everything states to use the Repair Tool and go
into Safe Mode. Both can not be DONE, it keeps putting me directly into the
Blue Screen. Has anyone found a fix to this issue?
