Windows Compatibility Wizard

I know this is going to sound stupid. Please correct me if I'm wrong,
because I have no idea what I'm doing. When you choose to use the Windows
Compatibility Wizard, and you select a program... is it to see if the program
is compatible with Windows Vista? Or to MAKE the program compatible with
Vista by choosing a compatibility mode other than Vista, such as Windows XP
Service Pack 2? My computer is constantly freezing. I'm told it's the
software. So if I run this wizard and choose to run Microsoft 2003 using the
Windows XP Service Pack 2 in the compatibility wizard, I won't have any
problems?

When you run a program in Compatibility Mode in Vista (and in XP before
it), it is to "fool" the program into thinking it's running on the
older, supported operating system. It doesn't test to see if the program
is compatible with Vista.

You need to give a lot more detail about the constant freezing you're
experiencing. This link will show you what details to include in your
next post:

Office 2003 is natively compatible with Windows Vista and doesn't need
to be run in any Compatibility Mode. If you are having freezing issues,
they are unlikely to have anything to do with Office 2003. We'll know
more and be able to help more specifically after you post back with
information per the link above.
