Windows Defender: Microsoft is parody of itself

I downloaded Windows Defender to check for spyware. I'm not sure
exactly what my last request was; either I asked for a full system scan
or asked it to update itself. I switched to another PC foolishly
assuming that a Windows XP system running Microsoft software would
execute its task without issue. Naturally I was wrong and when I
checked a few hours later I was greeted with Defender's UI saying:

The program can't install definition updates
Error found: Code 0x80072ee2

*SIGH* So typical.

Since Defender is promoted as having 2 free support incidents I decided
to call up because I'm tired of spending all my time fixing or finding
workarounds to defective products. First I spoke with a technical
router who had a heavy Indian accent. I gave her my name, phone
number, and reported the problem to her. I was given an SRX-incident
number and was transfered to someone who would handle my problem. Next
thing I hear:
"We're sorry but we cannot continue processing your call." and the
line was disconnected!

I called back. This time I was connected with the low talker from
Seinfeld. (Nice to see she's found new work) Again I reported my info
and again I was shipped off to a tech support representative. Again I
hear:
"We're sorry but we cannot continue processing your call." and the
line was disconnected!

I called back again. This time I'm furious. Twice now I went through
this process and twice I was cut off and in neither case did Microsoft
call me back. I gave them my number; for what? The number I gave was
my cell, and the phone I used was a landline so there was no
possibility of a callback being missed. With this third guy I finally
discovered that Microsoft is having internal problems with their phone
system and that the group I was being directed towards did not have
anyone available. This is why I was getting cut off. I asked why was
I sent on to a dead queue when they knew it wouldn't work and I only
got an apology. Supposedly my incident has been escalated because I
was so angry, but who knows if my problem will ever be resolved.

I am so sick and tired of nothing ever working. Download software and
it doesn't work. I ask for help and the help system doesn't work. I
call up and discover that the phone system doesn't work. Nothing ever
works anymore and I think it's disgusting. Microsoft is one of the
most guilty parties in our current world where nothing electrical ever
works. I'm so damn sick of hardware failures and software conflicts
and this and that resulting in nearly everything failing. Constantly.
Then you get the product fanboys who run in to protect their idols: "So
what if your airbag didn't go off like it was supposed to. It's your
fault for letting that other car hit you in the first place!" Instead
of being fanboys consumer need to start demanding that things actually
work.

(I'm about to cross my fingers and hope this post actually posts)

How to troubleshoot definition update issues for Windows Defender
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918355

If no joy, see - You may receive an "Error 0x80072EE2," "Error
0x80072EE7," "Error 0x80072EFD," "Error 0x80072F76," or "Error
0x80072F78" error message when you try to use the Windows Update Web
site or the Microsoft Update Web site
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/836941

If STILL no joy, use this link to download the latest definition file

http://au.download.windowsupdate.com...40cb4395cf.exe

Save it to the Desktop and run it from there.
