Windows Defender-not showing installed

I see many people are installing Defender update and yellow shild still
demands new update.. I am not qualified to go into registry and make changes.
Please create a soln update or will remove Windows Defender.

Did as you suggested and got message "this installation package could not be
opened. Verify that package exists and that you can access it, or contact the
application vender to verify that this is a valid windows installer package."
What do I do now??? I am a newbe. Should I just uninstall Windows
Defender???
