Windows Defender will not update its definitions

I am running WIndows Vista Ultimate with SP1 Beta. WIndows Defender is
asking for a definitions update but will not install any updates. The last
definitions update I received was 1.22.3405.0 created on 10/22/2007. Up till
then it was working ok.

How do I fix this problem or is it a bug?

Turn off Windows Update completely

Manually update Defender definitions (clicking on "check for updates" in the
Defender homepage)

Once Defender updates are successful, turn on Windows updates

Hi Stan,

I notice that you are running Vista with SP1 Beta. When did you install it?
Did you install it before or after 10/22/2007? If you installed it after that
date, then it is possible that something in the Beta is preventing Windows
Defender from installing its updates correctly, and you need to provide
feedback to Microsoft explaining this. I am waiting until SP1 is officially
released before I install it on my machine and my machine currently updates
Windows Defender without any problems.
