Windows Defender will not Update

Greetings all, I'm having difficulty with Windows Defender failing with,
Error Code: 0x80070002. It is the only problem that Windows Update seems to
have. I have tried both methods of manually updating without success. A
manual update seems to be successful because it doesn't give any errors, but
the definition file doesn't update. I have also tried the help suggestion in
the knowledge base to manuly load the latest version of Windows Update. Any
suggestions?

Running Windows XP sp3 32 bit.

Go ahead and download\update from here
<http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal>
go to the Microsoft address specified, and
in the right column, download the 32-bit definitions.
