Windows Defender application failed to iniatialise 0x800106ba. A problem
caused this program service to stop.

I have tried to download this again, but it says it is already installed on
my Vista, but if I try to run it, the above error message appears and does so
every time I start up, so I just get stuck in a loop!

If I try to uninstall it, it doesn't appear on my program list!

Any advice?

You can't uninstall it; it is part of the OS.
