I've already attempted the workaround re: the above (running Msiexec /x
{A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C}). I keep receiving a message telling
me that the AS_Sigs.MSI file is not present, despite my pointing it to the
actual location.

I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program again, with no luck.

Is there anything else to try?

Thanks,
Lucia

I have a similar problem inasmuch as the latest Defender update will not
install. It seems to download ok but will not install. The error code seems
to be 0x36B1 and I have found AS_sigs.msi on the hard disk but double
clicking on it has no effect.

Any advice, please

I have the same problem error 0x36B1 despite trying update and update from
defender where you get a message unable to access disk.

Just a bit of extra detail - the error message I get about being unable to
access the disk refers to a missing floppy disk; first time for a long time
since a program has asked for a floppy disk!

You will get a better response to Windows Defender queries, from people with
much experience of problems such as yours, from the dedicated Windows
Defender newsgroups (also available through a web interface).

See
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/secu...s/default.mspx
for details.

1. Try the Resolution in http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=915105 & reboot
the machine.

2. Others have found joy by uninstalling Defender and then reinstalling it.

Microsoft has established separate newsgroups for Windows Defender Beta2
support and comments. This is not one of them.

See
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/secu...s/default.mspx

I wound up replacing the AS_Sigs.MSI on my desktop computer with the same
file from a laptop which had updated with no problem. The file must have
become corrupted since that did the trick.

I'lll check the other group for future problems.
