Go to Tools | Accounts and make sure there is only one copy of your mail
account. Then see here as well: www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

In addition: I was asked to help with a similar problem a while ago. When I
sent mail on that person's PC, it worked fine. Then I had the person
demonstrate the problem to me...turned out she was double-clicking the
"Send" button, sending out two messages. I didn't think that was possible...

The whole idea of double-clicking seems a bit outmoded to me.
I've been using the single click option since MS first made it available.

Steve, Tim and Gary............

Thanks for all the suggestions and we have a winner ! :0)

It turns out I had my email account set up twice. Don't know how or why but
I'm sure I probably did it. Anyway, problem resolved.

Thanks a bunch Steve

Glad to hear it. Someone else posted that had happened to them, so that's
what made me suggest it.

Good to have the feedback for the next one.

cheers,

steve

I have same issue, but I have found a completely different reason for "double
message sent posts". It turns out that if I choose to save "sent messages"
(that I sent on imap server) to the "Local Sent Items" folder, two things
happen.
1. the message does not get saved to this folder (though it is supposed to
be saved there, and
2. the message registers as being sent twice in the imap "Sent Items"
folder. (it is actually only sent once to recipient; however it shows being
sent twice, as it is registered twice in the imap "Sent Items" folder.

So, what is happening is this: when I elect to save my sent messages to my
Local Sent Items folder (one does this in tools-options-send and then
checking "save copy of sent messages in the 'sent messages' folder), it sends
them twice to the imap server rather than once to imap server and once to
Local "Sent Items" folder.

Does anyone know of a fix for this? Has anyone else experienced this?
This machine is two days old HP, OEM Vista machine.

thanks.

I fixed the problem I believe. Since I had the same problem. Just to clarify
the problem at hand: When you send a single email to a friend, you get two
copies of that single email that I am sure you clicked 'send' once in your
sent box. Well if you are having that problem then this is the solution as I
was having. First off, I made sure that I was not sending sending the email
once and being that the sent box shows it being sent twice (date and time
identical) I wanted to make sure that they were not recieving my emails twice
as well. Well they are not. As for the problem I do not know what is causing
it but here it the conclusion.

Based on my model I am using Windows Vista 32bit Home Premium Edition
In the Windows Mail window, select on Tools > Options > tab on SEND > and
uncheck the first box under Sending... Where is reads "save copy of sent
messages in the 'sent items' folder. I am using AOL email and I believe it
automaticallys saves messages in the IMAP format. Therefore, this option is
enabling windows to send another copy of your sent mail, making it have two
sent items when its actually only sending twice.

yeah its irritating, but problem soloved. YAM BAM!

Good luck folks.

Was having the same problem. Thanks for the fix! Here's my take on it...
because AOL saves the sent email, Windows Mail downloads that "sent mail" and
because we asked Windows Mail to save it to sent file, it's saving it's own
personal copy.

No, when I deleted the second account the email account doesn't sent any
emails. What might I have done wrong?

Thanks
