Windows Experience Index test hangs

I cannot complete the "Windows Experience Index" as it hangs about 1/8 way
into the "Running the Direct3D Alpha Blend Assessment" test. It's been
sitting there for an hour or more. Tried several times, canceling just hangs
Explorer and requires task termination or else system goes to its knees.

I'm running Windows Vista 64 with an Intel DG965WH motherboard (X3000
graphics).
