Windows expiration

I have a valid Product ID which I have entered into the "change product key"
[system window] three days in a row. My Acer laptop was bought Vista Home
Premium before SP1, tho I did have SP1 downloaded. {I was current on all
Vista updates.}

I started receiving an error window "Windows Activation Your windows
license will expire in_ days."Since my Acer warranty is over I called
MicroSoft. They admit that my Product key is valid, but refer me back to
Acer for help. When I told them my Acer warranty was over, they offered to
put me thru to TechSupport at MS for $60. Since my key is valid, and
re-entering it into "Change product key" seems useless, I followed another
route recommended by MS which was to remove SP1.

I have done this and am wondering how to cause the Windows Activation window
to pop up. The error window only shows once a day and I'm down to 5 days.
That's the only way I can tell if I've cured the problem...can someone help
me?

You can reset your Windows Vista activation by performing the following:

1. Click on the Start button and in the Start Search box type in: slui.exe 4

2. Press the Enter key on your keyboard.

3. Select your Country.

4. Follow the instructions for phone activation (no charge).

5. Once completed, restart your computer.

Any advice on (re)downloading SP1. I will first be waiting until later
tonight to make sure I don't receive another expiration notice...
