That's because when you do that you're telling Explorer to start at that
location. Create your own icon on the quicklaunch or desktop and set a
destination folder as described in the following article:

Personally, I always just hit winkey+e to open it and go from there.

Set the view the way you want it, then click Organize/Folder and Search
options/View tab and click the button to "apply to all folders".
