Windows Explorer Crash - KB Patch Recommended but Fails

I had Windows Explorer recently crash, and a KB Patch was recommended but
said update "did not apply to my system". I would like to prevent this from
reoccuring if possible. Is there another patch I should be looking for, or a
workaround to prevent this?
