I have had one hell of a computer nightmare here...... I had to uninstall
update KB908531 because I was getting the error message "Windows Explorer has
encountered an error and needs to close"..... Also it was causing the top
three icons at the left in the start menu to double once in awhile.... With
out that update the problems are gone......

Is there anybody else having this problem with KB908531 ??? I have finally
figured out how to get that update to stop showing up in my system tray as
needing to be installed so I have now turn my Automatic Updates back on.....
Is there a fix for this update??? Does Microsoft have a number I can call for
free tec support???
Please Help

Thanks

For issues with this update please read this MSKB for a possible
resolution to the issue:

You may experience problems in Windows Explorer or in the Windows shell
after you install security update MS06-015(KB908531)
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918165

I tried to do it the way it said on http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918165
but it didnt work. On that page they say that the problem may have something
to do with Hewlett Packard. I got Hewlett packard computer so..

The Cause of the issue stems from :

If none of the above are presently installed, then this KB article does
not pertain to your system.

It may help if you explain what all you mean by that last remark.
E.g. one interpretation could be that you were trying Vista
and then trying to use WU under it you noticed some (unspecified)
problem symptoms.

Hmm... in fact, looking at the associated TechNet Security Bulletin
it's hard to guess what happens on each OS with this update.
Try looking in the update's install log for more clues.

Please, always post OS and version details when you are looking for help
in newsgroups, especially newsgroups, such as this one, which are
associated with no particular product or version.
