With the Explorer add-in QTTabBar and the plugin "Create new item"
it's possible to assign the shortcut Cntrl-N for creating an new
folder. I am just posting the solution because I searched since
Windows 98 for a lean solution...:

1. Install the Explorer add-in QTTabBar

2. Activate the QTTabBar plugin "Create new item" (QTTabBar Options,
Plugins)

3. Assign Ctrl-N to "create a new folder" (QTTabBar Options, Shortcut
keys: CreateNewItemButton (plugin))

(Tested with XP/Vista with QTTabBar v1.2.2.1, Create new item
v1.0.0.1)
