Windows explorer crippled?

At the end the startup process of my Vista 32 bit PC I get "Windows
explorer has stopped working...Windows is checking for a solution...has to
stop.." this keeps repeating until after a while I get "solutionfound". In
the "Problem Reports and solutions" window I then get the advise to updat
ffdshow and to disablef fdshow.ax. No solution either...Also a system
restore doesn't solve the problem. Thanks for any advise
