Windows Explorer Freezing

I'm experiencing a problem that seems to be related to accessing Windows
Explorer from other applications. Anytime I try and save or browse for a file
in any application Windows Explorer appears, as it should, but then
everything freezes and I get a message the application is not responding.

I've tried everything I know to try to clear this issue, but still have the
problem. I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium. The problem has been occurring
for the last six months and I'm about ready to throw this thing out of my
window...I'm desperate to get this resolved, so any help you can provide will
be greatly appreciated....

What happens if you try to open Windows Explorer itself? It can be found at
START/PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES.
If you can't get it open, you could try to copy this shortcut to your
desktop and change it's attributes. For example, you could set this new
shortcut's property "target" to something like %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /n
/e, C:\ that would make your Windows Explorer to be opened starting in your
C drive instead of your "My Documents". If it opens that way, it's surely
because there's something wrong with your folder and in this case you should
try to change its settings in START and then you mouse-right-click on your
documents and choose PROPERTIES. It will let you change the path from there.

It's not your files problem, it's Vista. I have the exact same problem, and
I've seen lots of other similiar posts. I seen a reference to an update that
supposedly fixes this, but I havne't been able to find a link yet. I did
read that if you have a disc in your cd-rom it can slow or freeze windows
explorer, but even if that helps, it still doesn't fix the initial problem.
Hopefully we can get some help soon!

Aviendhaa,

Thank you for your response I will look for the update also. I did have a
disc in my CD-ROM, but removed it after I read your post and tried again with
the same results unfortunately.

I can open Windows Explorer from Accessories and it opens and works fine. I
already have opening to my main drive instead of the Documents folder and
that seems fine. The problem still exists when I try and open Explorer from
within another application.

Thanks for your suggestions....

try going to start/control panel/appearance and personalization/folde
options/view tab/ then check launch folder windows in a seperat
process. make sure your control panel is set to control panel home an
not classic view. good luck, there are too many little problems wit
