Windows explorer has stopped working

I started up my computer and upon loading windows a message popped up
saying "windows explorer has stopped working." It then shows a black
screen and nothing is working properly. I have tried restarting, using a
restore checkpoint, among other things. Nothing is working. Does anyone
have any suggestions???
