Windows Explorer Out Of Control

I asked these questions a week ago and got no answer... so I'll ask it again:

1: How do I get rid of TAGS??? I have no use for them yet I can never
permanently get rid of the damn column. It's just in the way and it keeps
coming back.

2: How do I shut down Vista's creating file property columns based on file
content? I'm just sick and tired of Vista guessing wrong and inserting
unwanted music and video columns (ratings, genre, etc) for files that have
NOTHING to do with music or video. This feature COULD have been useful but
it's just another awful Vista nuisance.

Right-click on the Tags column header and de-select it...

Where are you seeing these? I don't see anything like this in my Vista
Windows Explorer...

If it were only that easy. I'm constantly doing it. I can find NO option to
just get rid of the TAGS coloumn for good

Just the other day I created a folder with .eml Outlook or MSN mail files.
Vista treated it as media and create genre and ratings colums. I can find no
way to STOP Vista from guessing wrong. It's just a pain in the butt to keep
deleting columns then having to hunt to restore the ones I want. As for my
general folder properties, I have it set to treat everything (including
sub-folders) as documents.

Right click the folder you created, select properties then the
customize tab.

Now set up the correct template for your folder.

Boy boys, I had enough squabbling in my last thread on this topic and never
got an answer. Obviously there IS a problem here. And if YOU know all the
answers about Vista... how the hell do I get rid of these damn TAG columns? I
find NO global delete and if I delete them in a folder and they keep coming
back.

And how can I create my OWN music file configuration. I don't need the
artist/album/rating columns. I just want to add bitrate... and MAKE VISTA
REMEMBER. But in folder properties under customize it just gives one “music
details” option… and that obviously includes the columns VISTA wants me to
have, not I want…

I suspect you will be happier with column customization being retained with
Vista Service Pack 2. If you're intensely interested, you may wish to try
the beta.

Since Vista took away the up level/copy/move buttons from Explorer AND from
the context menu, please explain how I could restore them to the context menu
WITHOUT a registry hack. I won't ask about restoring the buttons since
Microsoft seems determined to force users to use the new file mismanagement
system. While I like the new directory tree with the pull down menus on the
top, I really hate everything else about the Vista Explorer. So PLEASE don't
make it sound like there would be some universal acceptance of Vista if
everyone just knew what you claim to. Some just resent the removal of useful
tools... and the inclusion of new features that are poorly implemented making
users do MORE work than before for simple file management tasks.

Let me see if I understand. So the issues I raised ARE being addressed in
SP2? Since some here seem to think Vista was a perfect product from the
start, can you tell us EXACTLY what MS perceived the problem to be and what
sort of fix is being tested in SP2?

Thanks!

As I recall... this poor memory might be inherited from ME and XP. It's only
been made worst with Vista's folder type templates.... and the countless new
column options. Just trying to restore the file "type" column is a chore.

I don't know of anyone beyond pretty obvious trolls that things are always
perfect and flawless in either direction. I find that stance or belief that
that stance exists to limit intelligent discussion and am personally
disinterested in engaging along that front.

I commented as far as I was interested with an obvious disinterest in
engaging further in what appeared to be a contentious discussion. You have
some information: party on with that.

Happy holidays,
