Windows Explorer Status Bar

In Windows XP when browsing folders the status bar would list the
total amount of files in the current folder and the total size of the
files in that folder. In Vista I get the total amount of files in the
folder but the disk free space, how do I set Vista to display the
total size of all files in the current folder I am viewing?

Hi Ash,

If you have "Show pop-up description for folder and desktop items"
checked in Folder Options, then you can hover your mouse pointer over
the folder and the pop-up will show you how much space the whole folder
takes.

I have that enabled, thanks. I wish we could get the old functionality
back.

You can - you just have to re-invoke the old Menu bar, as the new UI
doesn't UI the "Status Bar" change. I too prefer the old Status Bar
to the larger space-wasting Vista replacement.

Try pressing Alt and see if the old menu pops back, else grope around
in the new UI to find a way to show it again.

Things I love in Vista's Explorer...
- "bread crumbs" drop-down navigation
- List View with column headers for faster sorting
- rename now does not select the file name extension
- drag-n-drop now tips you as to where you are dropping things
