Im running Vista and IE8. Every time I try to move a file from one folder to
another, "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and will shut down"
appears. Does anyone know how to recify this problem? Thanks

It is a problem plaguing Windows Explorer in Vista and XP. Upgrade to
Windows 7, or update your system. Windows update should do it.

If your explorer program is shutting down like you described, it i
being caused by either a virus or software corruption.

Try chkdsk'ing your hard drive first. If that doesn't fix it, it ma
be virus or your system files are so badly damaged that re-installin
Windows my be the best option. As others have mentioned, upgrading t
Windows 7 fixed their problem because they essentially (re-)installe
Windows.

If you have files you need saved, you will need a boot CD and at leas
one USB flash drive to backup your files from your current Window
install. If you don't know how to do this, retain your local compute
shop.

Download http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html
Disable all non microsoft shell extensions (for explorer) and reenable one
by one if it helps.

You may wish to do clean boot
