Windows Firewall blocks Automatic Update?

      04-22-2008
I've got Automatic Updates turned on ("Download updates for me"),
but I haven't seen anything since February. Does Windows Firewall
block Automatic Updates? If so, how can that be fixed? Is this the
right place to ask? If not, where should I ask?

Windows XP.

Actually, at the end of February, some group policies were applied,
(including some automatic update policies) and the firewall was turned on.
If it's not the firewall, I'll have to find something else.

Initially, automatic update would have been stopped by the policy
that set the client to automatically update at 3AM (when all the
computers are turned off). That policy has been corrected, (my
computer now shows "Download automatically" rather than "Download
and update at scheduled time") but at least on my PC, I still haven't
seen any updates.

Tip: Temporarily disable real-time protection by your anti-virus and/or
anti-spyware applications (e.g., CounterSpy, Spysweeper, Spybot Tea Timer,
AVG Anti-Spyware) and/or any third-party firewall (e.g., ZA) before
attempting to install the update(s). If you disable the third-party
firewall, make certain that you enable the Windows Firewall!
