I am developing a web application that will be hosted in a Windows Server
2003 (or maybe Windows 2008). Such an app will have a folder which will
contain many (and I mean thousands) of mp3 files.
Are Windows Server 2003/2008 directories/folders good enough to manage such
a quantity of files?
Please advice.

Respectfully,
Jorge Maldonado

In my experience you should be fine up to perhaps 10,000 files in a single
folder. Above this number performance deteriorates exponentially. I suggest
you create a subfolder structure if you intend to go substantially higher.

I'd second the "about 10,000 files" number, there seems to be something
significantly different between 9,000 files and 11,000 files.
