Windows genuine advantage downloading and installation issues

Hi.. hope someone can help.. i do have a genuine copy and never had any
problems with prior version till I got to KB905474 through windows update. It
either says a failed download.. or downlaods and then says a failed
installation.
When I check add/remove programs.. it tells me that KB905474 is already
installed

Not sure whats going on.. but I'm rather stuck.. can't get latest fixes
etc.. till I get past this... any ideas ?

I have the identical problem.
I tried to send "screen shots" to MS support but have no success yet.
Let me know if you get a fix.

Found the below instructions when looking at another post with heading
KB905474....

To recover from this error, please download and install:

http://www.download.windowsupdate.co...d496154544.exe

Then re-boot Windows. Does this solve your problem?
This link is to a more recent version of the update than the one offered by
Windwos Update, and fixes the installation glitch which leads to 80242006.

If you get error 80242006 from update 905474, please download and install:

http://www.download.windowsupdate.co...d496154544.exe

Then re-boot Windows. Does this solve your problem?

This is a link to a later version of 905474 than currently offered by
Windows Update. Windows Update History will not include a record of this
manual installation, although earlier installation attempts for 905474 will
remain in History. The effect of installing this version manually is that
Windows Update will not offer 905474 again until the version offered by
Windows Update is more recent than this one.
