Hi,

Windows Update wants me to install Windows Genuine Advantage (which was
already there, by the way) . Teh installation fails with teh following
errors:

----------
48.210: DoRegistryUpdates:UpdSpInstallFromInfSection Failed for
ProductInstall.GlobalRegistryChanges.ReInstall error: 0x5
48.210: INF_REGISTRY Failed
48.210: DoInstallationoRegistryUpdates failed
48.210: CleanupTrustedInfFile: GetFileAttributes for
C:\WINDOWS\system32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\oem50.cat
failed: 0x2
48.210: Accès refusé.
48.210: (KB892130) installation did not complete.

Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool has been partially updated and
may not work properly.
48.210: Update.exe extended error code = 0x5
----------

Actually,
C:\WINDOWS\system32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\oem50.cat
doesn't exist. I copied it from another system, and guess what? The
installer removed it and is still complaining that it can access it!

Any way to fix this odd behavior?

Thanks in advance.

Problem solved.

Wrong permissions on HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\LegitCheckControl.LegitCheck and
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\LegitCheckControl.LegitCheck.1. I don't know why
SYSTEM and Adminss no longer had Full COntrol on these keys.

Thanks. I had that problem on two XP Pro systems. This solved it.

You're welcome.

Now it would be interesting to know which process has reset the
permissions on these keys. Since we are at least two users having had
the problem, this cannot be a mistake of our part when manipulating the
registry.
