Windows Genuine Advantage Notification (KB905474) Error Code: 0x80

When attempting to install Windows Genuine Advantage Notification (KB905474)
I get Error Code: 0x800706BE. The update process never completes and I have
to cancel out of Windows Update. Article ID : 905474 Last Review : April 28,
2006
Revision : 3.0 indicates that this can be uninstalled by using Add/Remove
Programs however if I go to Add/Remove programs, it indicates that it can not
be uninstalled by that method.

You cannot uninstall it by the add/remove method, its Genuine
Microsoft Spyware and is designed to resist removal. Also its a Beta
and should never have been pushed as a critical update.

It is not "critical" nothing to do with security and totally
unecessary.

You may have a bigger problem as yours did not install correctly in

Sure it is. I removed it following this page. Just search for WGAtray.exe.
Delete it or rename. Then search the registry using regedit, and search.
Delete anything that says WGAtray.exe. It will remain in the Add Remove
program list, but it won't bother your computer.

It does not get every piece of code, but it is castrated.
