Windows Genuine Advantage

apparently my system is at risk" star icon advises me I may not be using a
legitimate microsoft platform and wants me to install WGAPluginInstall.exe.
I don't know if this advice is genuine. I do have a registered xp home
edition. should I follow instructions or am I being hacked.
