Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892130) Failure

The Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892130) update failed to
install after downloading. The system froze, I was forced to progman out.
Even after ending the update task in progman, when trying to log off I
recieved a message that the install was still running. I gave it more time,
but still had to cancel out to log off.

Now my update history has a red X and yellow question mark that says the
installation error is 0x800706BE.

Solving this whole issue may not even be necessary, as I was simply trying
to update XP before upgrading to Vista - can anybody speak to that?

I guess I should have mentioned that I read this solution in other threads
and tried it. The site just tells me that my Windows is genuine, not how to
deal with the failed install.

If I am confirmed "Genuine" do I need to worry about the install?

Hello Carey,

I have the exact same problem with the windows genuine validation tool
locking up during the installation on a windows XP sp2 system. What should i
do to correct this as without this installation the rest of the future
updates do not work.... please help.

i hav same problem as dat of suzan

I you EVER find out what is to be done about this problem please, please
post it under this same subject (wingenadvaltool kb892130). Mine messed up
like this on 10-18-2005.

I cannot sync music to my mp3, it just promp that i have to validate the
windows player and i did but it doest work still. what im going to do?
