I'm running Win Pro 2K with SP 4, and have had NO Windows Update problems
before this one.

I've followed every suggestion posted in this workgroup and in the Microsoft
KB for "failed installations".... Nothing has worked.

Everytime I open Windows Update, I'm prompted to install the "Windows
Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892130)"... I click Install.... and
nothing happens. No download, nada.

When I click on "Review Your Update History", all the failed attempts to
install are listed. I click on the red "failed" icon to learn how to solve
the problem, but nothing happens.

This is a new problem. I've used Windows Update for years on this computer
with the same configuration with no problems.

Same problem with:
"Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892130)"

Everything worked fine last time I updated. Now it can't get past that
tool. Fails every time when it tries to install it. Windows 2000 Sp4 as
well.

Well, whatever you do don't uninstall BITS 2.0. I was seeing some BITS
errors in the event log and seeing as it was the last thing listed as
sucessfully installed I uninstalled and re-installed it manually to see if
that would help:

Failed: 10

Now, I'm missing a bunch of patches! And every dang one of them fails to
install now. It just took me further back....... >:-{

Dear Glenn:

I am having the exact same problem on my Dell Windows 2K. Windows Update was
working perfectly well until microsoft ask us to download the WGA tool. Of
course, a genuine windows 2K software was pre-installed on my PC, but now I
get the same message as yours when i try to run the updater. Shouldn't
Microsoft address this issue? I have noticed that most of the postings shown
in different formusare about problems with Win 2K versions.

Can anybody help us on this issue?, please!!!

Uhmm...Has anyone taken the time to "Read" the MS News?
They NO Longer Support Updates for any Opperating System below XP SP1 or
SP2. Period!
What they are doing is Forcing you to upgrade to XP...Just like they're
Trying to Force everyone to Upgrade to SP2...ahhh...Microsoft...

Hi,

This is not correct for security updates.

Security updates will be available for Windows 2000 SP4 up to
June 30, 2010.

For Windows 98 and Windows Millennium Edition, the date is
June 30, 2006:

Microsoft will also continue to review and address critical security
updates on these products, through June 30, 2006.

Yes, I could help you out-at least get you some updates. I thinking
Microsoft would get mad if I posted the name of the legal program
here. It legal because they have a contract with Microsoft.
It is free for the home user. The reason Microsoft would get mad
I think it bypasses the check. I have just started using that
program. My system is legal.

Exact same problem for me. I took advantage of the upgrade top 64-bit
Windows, and I think that's why my 32-bit license has suddenly become
invalid. Previously I have used the validation tool no problem, but now it
doesn't even run.

I was rather hoping I could continue to use 32-bit Windows until the 64-bit
edition (eventually) arrives. I just hope that the 64-bit version actually
works - the trial version didn't!

What a bunch of monkeys!
