'Windows has blocked some startup programs' Problem

I have stopped a program from loading at startup. No problem there. However
I keep getting a little pop-up window from the 'sys-tray' telling me that
'Windows has blocked some startup programs'. It doesn't only happen at
startup but seems to pop up randomly throughout my day. Sometimes it comes
up every five minutes. I have tried to acknowledge it by clicking the box,
but clicking the close button and by ignoring it, but nothing seems to stop
the irritating thing from reappearing a few minutes later.

Can I stop it?

How?

Very grateful for any help with this - I'm tearing my hair out.

Are there programs showing when you click the sys tray icon for the blocked
programs. If there are, then you need to choose to run or block those
programs. If you are blocking them, you will next want to delete these
programs from your start up sequence. This will stop the notification from
coming up at all. If you want those programs run, then you chose run. Of
course if you want these programs to run, then they will always come through
with this same notification on every restart until the program is updated.
You might want to check with the originator of the program to see if they
have any updates or patches that will run them automatically instead of
blocking them on start up.

As an alternative, there is way, in the control panel, to turn off the
system notifications. I can't recall how that is done though, but there are
instructions in Vista General Discussion that you should be able to find with
a key word search.

Speaking of which, does Vista still support the "run-" registry entry? This
was a handy place to move startup program entries in windows (before vista)
in case you might want them back. And this was the place that MSConfig would
place entries when you'd use it to stop a startup program.

Let this forum know if this helps or if you figure out the problem, so
others can benefit. As far as I know the "notify me of replies"
does not work, so do not count on this feature.
