Hi there, I'm a user running Windows XP Pro, SP2 and have always kept updates
installed up-to-date. Yesterday I noticed the usual tray icon notifying me
that windows update has some updates ready to be installed. I installed
these updates and then rebooted. Big problems. Windows explorer crashes as
soon as i try to run it. Same goes with Internet Explorer and most other
programs. A side effect of this bug is that the start menu and task bar will
disappear and then reload again as though I had restarted windows.
It appears that there is some problem with a shared DLL that is part of
Windows Explorer. Probably something that was updated with that most recent
update. I am certain there is nothing else significant that I did which
caused this problem to happen. I installed the update, rebooted, and the
problem appeared. Is this a bug with the update that will be fixed with
another update? Is it some incompatibility with my computer (Dell Latitude
D620 notebook)? Or is it possible that somehow the update did not install
correctly?
Is there some way that I can manually reinstall the latest updates to see if
it fixes the problems? Thanks.
