Windows Installer Error Message

Hi, whenever I try to uninstall or install something from my computer
(specifically itunes)

I get the following error message after it finishes downloading

- "The Windows Installer Service could not be
accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if
the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support
personnel for assistance."

I've spoken to a microsoft technician, as well as 3 HP technicians, and
no one seems to know how to fix it. I was wondering if any of you knew
how to fix it or if you are experiencing the same problems.

So if 3 HP techs don't know how to fix it and an MS tech doesn't know, the
best solution is to reinstall.

Hi,

Have you tried the steps here?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315346

Written for XP, but they apply the same in Vista.

Have you installed SP2 Beta? It caused my Windows Installer Service to stop
functioning. I tried all the steps to correct it and nothing worked. I
uninstalled the SP2 Beta and everything was back to normal.

FWIW - I went through all those steps and a few others I googled up on
a friend's system. None of it helped. A re-install of Vista eventually
fixed it.
