Windows Installer Issue

Hello, I wonder if anyone can help?

I seem to be having a problem with windows installer, I am not getting an
error but everytime I go into a new application, i.e. firefox, explorer,
word, control panel, I get the windows installer pop up box come up saying
"preparing to install" then it goes to "gathering information for microsoft
professional 2003" then back to "preparing to install" and it loops like that
until I cancel several times. All applications are installed and were working
fine earlier, I'm not sure what has happened and why it is doing this!!

Can anyone help?

Did you add/remove anything recently?
It sounds like the installer/uninstaller didn't finish and is confused.

Yes, I uninstalled visual studio but this went through ok with no problems. I
have uninstalled office 2003 now and that has cleared the problem. I will
re-install office 2003 when I return to work on Monday, do you think after
re-installing office I will get the same problem or do you think it will then
be ok?

In theory, it should be fine.
It sounds like something in the install didn't complete.

I have a similar problem after installing PC Cillin 2008 on my XP Pro
machine. When I right click on an icon before giving me the options for
that right click the installer pops up and goes through several changes and
then disappears and gives me the right click menu. ???

installed by WI, Microsoft or third party.
